Well it’s been a while since I last posted…Unfortunately for anyone who enjoys reading this blog it has to take a back seat to God, Family, Friends and ministry. I recommend getting a blog reader like bloglines or google reader and subscribe to my RSS that way when I do post…Bones! It’ll let you know.

Anyway…Here’s my life update since my last post…

1. We moved our Malta Campus in with our Clifton Park campus which means…a Better Audio/VIdeo/Lighting system. It’s been an insane process to transition all our Malta equipment to integrate with our CP equipment. This is the first week where I haven’t ran a HD SDI, Component or cat 6 cable more than 100ft somewhere in our building.

2. Things didn’t work out with the girl I was dating…Still trusting God will help me find the right girl is His time. No hurry.

3. God has really been dealing with me on some junk and funk that has been holding me back…It’s not about me it’s about his glory…I can’t ever lose sight of that….Not even for a second.

4. I’ve been asking people more questions than I’ve answered for people….You can learn something from everyone. I want to be like solomon when he made wisdom his top priority in 1 Kings 3. He says…

I’m too young for this, a mere child! I don’t know the ropes, hardly know the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of this job. And here I am, set down in the middle of the people you’ve chosen, a great people—far too many to ever count.

9 “Here’s what I want: Give me a God-listening heart so I can lead your people well, discerning the difference between good and evil. For who on their own is capable of leading your glorious people?”

5. I got mad props for all the youth pastors out there….I spent all last week in a fish bowl of middle schoolers at camp just outside of scranton PA. Camp was awesome and I had a lot of fun hanging out with all my peeps from Northway but there’s something about being an adult who’s outnumbered 10 to 1 by little people under 4 feet tall that’s just not for me.
threw some highlight videos together while i was down there that we showed a couple of the nights…

While I was at C3 (fellowship Church’s annual conference in grapevine TX) a couple months ago I got the oppertunity to see some of their best stuff from throughout the year. One of the best videos they showed was a Trans-Siberian / God rest ye merry gentlemen Remix. I could explain it more but Pace Hartfield recently posted a great blog on the creation process of this creative masterpiece.

“Television and films have been described in the past as, ‘radio with pictures’ and if you think about it, that’s very true. Audiences have been conditioned by years of exposure to professionally produced television and film to viscerally respond to sound more than picture.”

For those of you “video editors” out there who spend all your time making your project look pretty and not enough time making it sound pretty…You need to read this full article.

As I have learned over the years, audio is so important to your video productions and there are some great practical tips in this article to help you hear your video better.

Don’t worry, be happy
It’s great to be back at Northway!
I got to actually push the buttons.
Kevin Murrell Wears Britney spears headgear microphones.
4am is to late to go to sleep (expecially when you have to be up at 6:30)
The Other Boleyn Girl is the most boring movie I’ve ever watched. Two thumbs WAY down.
Sleeping until 12:30 Monday afternoon is not good for your internal clock.

Well it’s the end of the first Day of C3 in Texas and I’m crazy tired. This morning I was warming up my car in what felt like 0 degree weather and Tonight I just got in from outside and it’s definitely to warm to wear even a light jacket. Loooong day…But an awesome.

Fellowship church is one of the most creative entity’s in the world.
I can hear Ed Young preach the same message 5 times and it’s still interesting.
Ed would have made a great male cheerleader.
Their worship leaders could all have record contracts.
They are crazy diverse in the songs that they sing.
The media and Production rivals what you would see at a U2 concert.
They have some of the nicest staff and volunteers I’ve ever met.

peep some pics from the first night.

Well as I’m on my way to Dallas for C3 Creative Church Leadership Conference I’m sitting in Philadelphia on the front side of a 3 hour layover. I just got done pounding a Cheese steak from the only steak and gyro joint in the airport. 2 1/2 hours left so I thought i’d start my time killing by doing something I think every other mac user in america has done (except for me)….USE PHOTOBOOTH! Normally the idea of killing valuable time making funny faces into the camera of my laptop doesn’t really entice me, however today…I’ll make an exception.

big nose

cone head

boom

You think these faces are funny…You should see the people looking at me making the faces.
Okay…okay…Here’s the real Dave Bookhout

Here’s the video we made for the service this past weekend…Shot it with 1/2 day of notice…I think it came out really well…I actually had a lot of good comments about it at church.

We shot one scene at our Northway Church Colonie location in front of the 3 screens using lots of blue back and fill light from an ARI kit I rented.
The other scene was actually the challenging one…First off, finding a place to shoot (good call by Brian Howe)…Ended up shooting at the Desmond in Albany (special thanks to Juan for hooking us up) where they have a lot of indoor trees. Combine that with a sweet green toned filter and I think we accomplished that jungle feel.

Devin Cremeans also made a great graphical transition scene illustrating the roots of bitterness as well as some great motion tracking using a new program we got called Mocha. We highly recommend it.
